Whatever the stage of your breastfeeding journey, or perhaps you haven’t started yet, it’s important to ensure that you’re wearing the correct size bra. Not only will it help to keep you healthy and supported but your confidence and comfort levels will also benefit.
It’s fair to say that you will, like most fluctuate in size during the varying stages of breastfeeding so keeping up with your size can be tricky. Over 70% of UK women are thought to be wearing the incorrect bra size, so imagine how many of the breastfeeding community must be wandering around with ill-fitting underwear.
From my own experience I found that this can be confusing whether you measure yourself or enlist the help of another e.g. a retailer. There are many methods, some a bit out of date, some a but maverick (in my opinion). The best advice we can give is try to size yourself correctly and then try some bras out in the suggested size as well as some ‘sister’ sizes. Only when the bra is on will you truly know what fits you best. OK so it’s a bit of a faff but it’s worth it in the long run.
Where to start? Here’s a good online calculator that you can use yourself at home, simply grab the tape measure and follow the advice.
Talk about it, we love the ‘Boob or Bust’ Facebook group which can be on hand to share thoughts and gain advice.
Order in a few bras and get testing, the benefit of buying online is that you can try them on in the comfort of your own home and return those that don’t fit, re-ordering other sizes if necessary. Check out the returns policy and opt for the guys that make it simple!
