Best of the Vests
Whatever your feeding style, the nursing vest has to be THE staple item. Often worn threadbare as you eat, sleep, go out, lounge in, all in your trusty vest.
So, what makes an amazing nursing vest. Well, clips, yes – most of the time but there’s so much more your under-garment friend can offer. And there’s more and more options emerging so it’s worth considering what’s going to suit you. You’ll need a few, that’s for sure.
So, there a couple of categories; are you a…
Clips kinda gal?
It’s simple, it works. The same clips as on your nursing bra but on a vest. Often but not always coulee with a secret support panel which depending on your size and the fit can be a blessing or a curse. Personally it worked for me and my bustiness. This is perfect for 1up-1down feeding, you hoick up your top, revealing the nursing vest beneath unclip, pull down and do the same with your bra. The slight down side is doubling up onto clips can look bulky under certain clothes and sometimes feel uncomfortable.
You’ll find most nursing vest use this design, I think H & M are particularly good value for money. They get my vote.
No clips, please?
Clips can be fiddly, especially in a rush to feed a screaming baby. Simple access by lifting a cropp
ed overlay to reveal boob access whilst at the same time providing a little modesty is a great design. However, if you’re going for 1up-1down, which is most probable, you have that extra up layer to consider.
There are two front runners in this category; feedmemummy and Bshirt. Personally I think Bshirt edges it with thicker straps to cover your nursing bra clips meaning it could be worn alone, especially as it has a pretty edge to the over-layer.
The feedmemummy vest is more designed to be worn underneath, the edges of the layers don’t meet so you get a draughty gap. Both a long in length, so good bum coverage.
All of these vest provide tummy coverage but uniquely breastvest has a design that exposes your nursing bra meaning no second or third layer so good for those that get too hot or for the Summer. That said, it means you’re tied to wearing it underneath your top.
